As part
of Elder Care Alliance, Mercy Retirement & Care Center is dedicated to
the mission and philosophy of our sponsors.
Mission:
Elder Care Alliance is a nonprofit organization committed to serving and enriching
the physical and emotional well-being of older adults through a network
of professional, faith-centered care communities and services.
Philosophy:
Committed to the spiritual traditions of its sponsors, at Elder Care Alliance
we believe in:
- Respecting and
celebrating the dignity and inherent worth of each person
- Providing care for
the elderly regardless of cultural background, religious orientation,
or economic means
- Maintaining excellent
service through teams of dedicated sponsors, board members, staff,
and volunteers
- Furthering our mission
by the careful stewardship of resources
- Collaborating with
organizations that share our values to better benefit each community
we serve.

Promoting the highest
quality of life through exceptional care and services is our top priority.
Our trained and committed caregivers work with healthcare professionals
to create a personal care plan for each resident. Our goal is to provide
residents with high quality care and service in positive environments
so that they can maintain as independent a lifestyle as possible. Individuals
and couples alike find companionship, fellowship, and friendship by joining
other residents in a wide range of activities, social events, and spiritual
retreats.

| Our
approach reflects a tradition of service and dedication that goes
all the way back to the creation of the Sisters of Mercy in Dublin,
Ireland. By 1872, the Sisters of Mercy were well established in San
Francisco, caring for the needs of the homeless and providing geriatric
care at St. Mary's Hospital. The facility moved to the East Bay after
the 1906 earthquake caused major damage at the San Francisco site.
Today, Mercy Retirement & Care Center is thriving and continues
the mission of its founders. |

The Mercy staff members
feel that Mercy is more than a building--it is a community. Each member
of our staff is fully committed to providing thoughtful, personalized
care and service. We celebrate the individuality of each person. We honor
the inherent worth of each person. In all we do, we strive for excellence.
This is demonstrated in the daily interaction among residents, family
members and staff. It is common to see a resident visiting with a caregiver
on the way to Mass, a waiter enjoying a smile when he brings a resident
an extra big piece of his favorite dessert, or a housekeeper taking the
time to help a resident hang a photo of the grandchildren. Mercy truly
is a community.
